Shiftwords is a word game where the grid won't sit still.

Every few seconds one line of the 5x5 board slides — and it slides because of

you. The board reads the word you're tracing and takes it apart. Finish before

the countdown hits zero and the word banks. Hang on for one more letter and

you're playing with fire: land it inside the final second and it pays double.

Miss the window completely and the board takes a link.

Three links. Then the run is over.

HOW IT PLAYS

• Drag a path across touching tiles — sideways, up, down, diagonals. Three

  letters or more.

• Read the arrows. The left panel tells you exactly which line is about to

  move and which way, so a good player is planning two words deep.

• Bank before the shift. Every word you lock in grows your chain and raises

  your multiplier.

• Play the last second. Anything banked inside the final second scores double.

WHY IT GETS ITS HOOKS IN

The board is not random. It watches the word you are holding and picks the

slide that hurts it most. So you learn to hold two words at once: the one

you're banking now, and the one that survives the shift.
